As Lura Turner Homes’ founder, Lura Turner (right, above) began opening doors for people with special needs in1965. In 1984, Joyce Ridge took up Lura’s mantle and kept “opening doors” for special needs adults for 20 years, especially at Civitan House. Although Lura and Joyce are long gone, current executive director Max McQueen still looks to this dynamic duo for guidance as in, “What would Lura and Joyce do?” Here it is 60 years after Lura opened “Garfield House,” and we are still opening doors. In fact, on Sunday,May 17, we’ll break ground on two new homes – at long last! Please join us at 2 p.m., May 17th, at LTH’s offices 8640 North 19th Avenue (Faith United Methodist’s campus) as we celebrate 61 years of serving adults with special needs, plus break new ground. Feel free to make a donation of $61 in honor of this happy day and anniversary. Thank you! Max McQueen, Executive Director, Lura Turner Homes
